Elizabeth Blackert

Ph.D. student in MSNE

Lissa is a Houston-area native, from the rural town of East Bernard where her family manages a Welsh Pony farm. She earned her BS in Nanoscale Engineering from SUNY Polytechnic Institute in 2019 and joined the EQUAL Lab at Rice that fall. Her current research project is to develop a light-responsive soft robotic platform for potential biomedical applications. Lissa is an NSF Graduate Research Fellow and a Bioelectronics NSF Research Traineeship Fellow. Her interests include serving Rice and the broader Houston community through her role in the Graduate Student Association and playing the flute in the Campanile orchestra.

RuiiXu

Ph.D. student in MSNE

Rui joined EQUAL in Fall 2020 after receiving his B.S degree in electronics science & Technology in Dalian University of Technology, China. His current research interest is to design a photonic microcavity to enhance the peak intensity of Terahertz light source, which will enable the observation of novel nonlinear carrier-lattice dynamics in quantum materials. He is also working on using second-order nonlinear effects to understand the properties of solids. Besides academics, Rui is also an amateur athlete in 100-meter dash. He used to be a National second-grade athlete in China. Rui also likes traveling and photography.

Tong Lin

Ph.D. student in MSNE

Tong graduated from Peking University in 2020 and with a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering, and joined EQUAL to study ultrafast phonon-engineered quantum materials.
